DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY

We are a nonprofit collective organization headquartered in the Municipality of Apia, Risaralda. Our scope of action may extend to the entire national territory.

Founded by decision of a group of producers in the Municipality of Apia, the Association of Plantain Growers of Apia was established through Act No. 001 on January 22, 1998. They began the marketing process with a small quantity of plantain clusters, taking them to local markets and the city of Medellín. This venture revealed the excellent quality of the fruit, attributed to the outstanding environmental conditions, soil quality, and richness in the main plantain-producing area of the municipality.

Currently, the association has 103 members with an average monthly production of 120 tons, making it the second most important contributor to the municipality's economy. In 2010, Asoplapia participated in the Rural Opportunities program, focusing on strengthening rural microenterprises and the productive alliances project, specifically targeting plantain production and marketing. In 2012, they participated again in the productive alliances project through an agreement with associations from the municipalities of Santuario and Santa Rosa de Cabal. In 2017, they seized the opportunity for a third productive alliance, providing support to 50 producers with technical assistance, plant materials, and inputs and tools to improve and modernize plantain cultivation, thereby achieving one of the association's main objectives: enhancing the income of each producer.
