The National Agricultural Association of Plantain Producers of Belén de Umbría - ASPLABEL is a non-profit association created on November 5, 2000. It was established by a group of farmers with the aim of diversifying their crops, as their economy depended solely on coffee cultivation, which was often affected by low prices. They began by selling plantains in local markets, which was their only option until 2010 when they established a plantain peeling facility, creating a commercial alliance with PepsiCo Alimentos Colombia LTDA. This alliance provides employment opportunities for single mothers, indigenous people, displaced individuals, victims of violence, and vulnerable youth, thereby boosting the local economy. One of the association's main objectives is to improve the quality of life for its members and employees, strengthen the unity of the plantain farming sector, and enhance crop conditions by promoting agroindustrial development.
