N.I.T.

DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY

The association responsible for the preservation and cultivation of orchids.

In 1982, the Risaraldense Association of Orchidology was founded by a group of individuals led by Shigenobu Tsubota, María Teresa Toulemonde, Esperanza Echeverri de Vallejo, Esperanza Mejía de Moreno, Edgar Jaramillo Marulanda, Amparo Vásquez de Saravia, José Valencia Henao, and Olga Vélez de Jaramillo, among others. They undertook the determined task of creating an entity dedicated to studying orchids, mastering the art of cultivating them, and safeguarding the conservation of this botanical family that once bestowed great fame and prestige upon Colombia. Today, this family is threatened and at risk of extinction.

Following the Colombian Orchidology Society in Medellín and the Vallecaucana Orchidology Association in Cali, the Risaraldense Association of Orchidology was established in Pereira, becoming the third of its kind in Colombia. Occupying the third position chronologically, it's highly significant for Risaralda to maintain its standing within the Colombian Orchidology community. This achievement has garnered profound respect and recognition not only within our country but also internationally, in the realm of global Orchidology. The association's accomplishments and achievements, including 8 international and 28 national exhibitions, all held during Pereira's anniversary celebrations, have earned it immense prestige. Additionally, this has showcased the Coffee Cultural Landscape's image and raised awareness about biodiversity's importance, environmental protection, natural resources, and the beauty of orchids, which constitute the very essence of the association.
