DESCRIPTION AND HISTORY
Located in the green mountains of Guática, Risaralda, La Esperanza is a coffee farm blessed with fertile soils and an ideal climate for the cultivation of coffee. Its volcanic soils, rich in nutrients, and the mountains bathed in a sea of green create the perfect setting for the cultivation of coffee. Its owners are part of a generation of deep-rooted tradition, whose love for coffee and the countryside has been passed down from generation to generation. For them, each harvest of ripe beans, each new tree and each step is a manifestation of their love for the land and their respect for nature and life in the countryside.
The La Esperanza coffee farm in Santa Ana, Guática, has a rich history that reflects the coffee growing tradition of the region. Located in the heart of the Eje Cafetero, this farm has witnessed more than 200 years of dedication to the cultivation of coffee, since its foundation at the beginning of the 19th century by Secundino Trejos and his wife Margarita. From its beginnings, Finca La Esperanza stood out as an ideal place for the cultivation of coffee. Throughout the decades, the farm has been expanding and modernizing, incorporating new varieties of coffee and more advanced cultivation techniques. This evolution has allowed the farm to adapt to changes in the market, constantly improving the quality of its product.
Generational Transition
In the 1900's, the farm passed into the hands of Benjamin, who was Secundino's natural son. Benjamín continued his father's legacy until he reached an advanced age. He then decided to turn over the administration of the estate to his three unmarried daughters. These women, with a deep respect for their father's legacy, strove to maintain the traditional techniques and values he had instilled in them. However, recognizing the need for more vigorous management to ensure the future of the estate, they decided to sell it to someone they trusted who could carry on their father's legacy. Thus it was that the estate passed into the hands of Gonzaga Blandón and María Alcira Tusarma, one of Benjamín's granddaughters. Together they have worked tirelessly for more than 30 years to keep alive the spirit and passion for coffee that characterized its founder, and to pass this legacy on to their children and grandchildren.
The story of La Esperanza is not only a tale of survival, but also an inspiration on how traditions can endure and evolve over time, always keeping alive the love for coffee and the countryside.
